Stone Canyon reflects on a big year

Warm sunny days, bright green foliage, East Plum Creek rushing through camp, and crystal clear skies at night all signaled the arrival of summer. As the school year ended and the DCSD community headed off on exciting vacations, the team at Stone Canyon Outdoor EdVentures took a few moments to reflect on our recent progress.

The last 12 months were eventful to say the least. We kicked off the school year with a new name, logo and website. Additionally, our team did an amazing job of taking an already great program to the next level by introducing new curriculum into our outdoor education program and improving the teaching methods we use with students.

We were also able to create more community awareness for Stone Canyon through our retreat programs, both old and new. We established new initiatives such as Rock Climbing at Castlewood Canyon and Competitive EDGE that enabled us to impact a larger part of the community.

Stone Canyon Summer Camp, a traditional overnight camp, officially opened its doors in June 2016. Campers had the opportunity to develop new skills, push individual boundaries, and have tons of fun while creating new friendships!

The constant rush of activity and new challenges help the days move fast in the canyon. It’s hard to believe we’re at the end of our programming year and are already looking forward to the next. But we’re excited about the what’s around the corner and the opportunities that await.
